Aimogen Free vs Aimogen Pro
How the free Aimogen plugin on WordPress.org relates to Aimogen Pro, why Pro asks you to install the free plugin, and what each one provides.
There are two plugins with the Aimogen name and they are meant to run together.
| Aimogen (free) | Aimogen Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you get it | wordpress.org/plugins/aimogen | wpbay.com/product/aimogen-pro |
| Licence | GPL, free | Commercial, per-site licence |
| Focus | Manual, on-demand AI writing and a basic chatbot | Automation, scale, agents, integrations and developer APIs |
| Updates | WordPress.org | Built-in updater, requires an activated licence |
How the two relate#
Aimogen Pro is a standalone plugin. It contains its own AI engine, its own settings, its own chatbot and its own content creators, and it works with no other plugin installed.
The free plugin is treated as a companion, not a dependency. When Pro is active and the free plugin is not detected, Pro shows a dismissible admin notice offering to install or activate it. The notice appears only on Aimogen admin screens and on the WordPress dashboard, and it carries a "Do not show again" link that stores the dismissal in user meta.
If you dismiss the notice and never install the free plugin, Aimogen Pro keeps working exactly as before. Installing the free plugin adds its own menu and its shared feature surface alongside Pro.
What the free plugin provides#
The free Aimogen plugin covers manual, on-demand generation:
- Generating articles, titles, excerpts, summaries and custom content on request
- Rewriting existing content, adjusting tone, improving grammar and readability
- Suggesting SEO titles and translating content
- A basic AI chatbot with a custom personality
It is a good fit for a site where an editor occasionally wants AI help inside the editor.

Integrations
Which do I need?#
Install Aimogen Pro if you want any of: scheduled or bulk generation, a production chatbot, agents, workflow automation, more than one AI provider, or programmatic access.
Install Aimogen (free) as well if you want its shared surface. It costs nothing, and Pro stops prompting you about it once it is active.
