The function “Notify Post Authors That Their Post Is Going To Expire” was working well but recently (in the past 6 months) stopped working. The post is expired correctly but the author is not sent an email. We have plugin “Email Log” so as an admin I can see there was no attempt to send an email to the author.

We are using version Version 1.2.8 of Kronos Post Expirator. I attached a screenshot of the settings related to this problem.

I hope you can help resolve this issue.

      Hello,

First of all, thank you for your purchase.

I suspect that your WordPress site is having issues with email sending. Please try installing and configuring a Gmal SMPT plugin, so Gmail will handle the mail sending part of your site. Please check it here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/gmail-smtp/

Please check this plugin setup tutorial also: https://wphowto.net/gmail-smtp-plugin-for-wordpress-1341

I don’t see how email sending is the problem because my website email log is filled with other emails. Every other email that should be sent by the website is in the email log except for the post expired emails from Kronos. The log shows every email that is attempted and there was no attempt by the Kronos plugin to send an email. I am using this plugin for email logging https://wordpress.org/plugins/email-log/ . I’ve attached a screenshot of recently sent emails in the email log, so you can see that our WordPress site is not having a problem sending emails. If it attempted to send an email and couldn’t send it, the “Sent Status” would be unchecked. If that happened I would use an smtp plugin.

      Hello,

Ok, in this case, can you send me, please, temporary admin login credentials to your WordPress install, so I can check this issue out? Send it, please, to my email address: [email protected]

      Regards, Szabi – CodeRevolution.

I did some testing and found that the post author is emailed when I changed the settings as follows:

      – Plugin Autorun Interval: once 10 minutes

      – Notify For Posts That Are Older/Newer: Older

      – Than This Date: 15 minutes ago

So the problem seems to be with my settings. The post is set to expire in 6 months from the post date and moved to trash, and that works. What did not work was to notify the post author with the following settings:

      – Plugin Autorun Interval: Once a day

      – Notify For Posts That Are Older/Newer: Older

      – Than This Date: 5 months 29 days ago

      —–

I would like the author to be notified a few days before their post expires. Should I use a different setting than 5 months 29 days ago?

      Thanks for your help.

Please note that if the plugin already deletes the posts (the time for deletion is closer to the current time than the notification time), than no notification emails will be sent out, as the plugin will first delete all posts which are expired and afterwards it will check for posts for which it should send notification emails – at which time, no posts will be found, as all were already deleted.

So, please set the notification date closer to the current time than the post expiration date, so the emails can be sent correctly.

      Regards.

I understand that, but I thought 5 months 29 days ago would occur before 6 months (6 months is when the post expires). I would like the author to be notified a few days before their post is set to expire.

      I will try this change:

Expire posts older than 6 months 2 days ago

Notify author for posts older than 6 months.

      Yes, this sounds correct.
