Now, the site is randomly creating titles that, instead of a normal title, have the URL of the RSS feed as the title.

So when I use the seo title generator on the page directly it does a fine job of rewriting the title. I just have to copy and paste it into the article title and reset the URL.

In essence, all it needs to do is take the current title and have a rewrite it.
It would work perfectly if, after/during the creation of the content,if it just automatically triggered the same rule and replaced the title of the article. (or something similar)
