I would like to know if there is an option to import guest authors as authors of the imported/created/crawled posts in the “Generated Post Author” option filed? Because now there is only an option of Random user, Import crawled author and the registered authors. But I don’t want to create multiple authors unders users(too many emails and passwords).

What I am trying to achieve is to show main crawled site URL  as the author of the post not the actual name of the author. So I would create multiple guest authors(actual site urls) with the coauthor plugin and then define them in the settings under specific rule.

An even cooler option would be if you could somehow add the option of site url as the name of the author:)

Thanks for any help in advance

      Hello,

First of all, thank you for your purchase.

I updated the plugin to v2.5.8.3, I added a new feature to it, now it is able to import the website domain as the author of the scraped post.

After updating the plugin, please set the ‘Generated Post Author’ settings field in rule settings to ‘Scraped website URL’ -> the plugin will create a user for each domain you scrape.

      I hope this helps.

      Regards, Szabi – CodeRevolution.

Wow. Amazing support. Things like this makes you feel money well spent on a plugin. Just a quick question? Could there also be an option for domain without the “www” prefix? Like “theverge.com” instead of “www.theverge.com”. Not trying to be picky after your quick implementation but I had to ask.

Ok, I updated the plugin to v2.5.8.4 and removed the www. part, please check.

Let me know if this helped.

      Regards.

      Yes it works great.

Can you also tell me how to sort the scraping of websites by category? I tried a few options in the settings but nothing is working as I would like.

      My problem is this:

Let us take theverge.com for example. If I choose TECH(www.theverge.com/tech) as a category I have posts within that category that are related to TECH category but also a few that are related to other categories like GOOGLE, TRANSPORTATION, REVIEWS, HOW-TO etc… I would only like to scrape posts related to TECH category. I watched a few of your videos related to this question but still can’t make it work. I know it is probaly stupid simple but with so many options I am not sure what should be enabled and what not under category customizations.

      I am glad to help.

Well, in case of theverge.com, the categories are a kind of a fuzzy subject, as they don’t really show posts based on the ‘tech’ category, but they show all posts which are tagged as ‘tech’ (which is different from the ‘tech’ category.

I suggest you import from the more specific categories, like Creators: https://www.theverge.com/creators

      Business: https://www.theverge.com/business

      and other similar.

As, in their general ‘tech’ category, you will find mixed posts, and they don’t seem to provide a way to filter them properly only by the ‘tech’ category.

      Regards.

I know this is a strech but is there an option to also make a “reverse restriction” under the “Crawling restriction:” and “URL Patterns to Not Crawl and Import:”.

So that only URL with specific pattern would be imported. Because in this case I only need to insert one URL pattern that contains the category name in the URL and not all others possible URL category patterns that I need to exclude.

      Just for example:

A lot of the sites have URL patterns like this http://www.example.com/category1/title of the article

So with the reverse rule restriction I could only insert http://www.example.com/category1/ URL pattern and all other possible categories would be excluded.

Ok, sure, I noted this, will add it in the next plugin update. It will be called ‘URL Patterns to Exclusively Include’.

      Regards.
