Enabling chat log without persistent chat

I want to log each user conversation, but WITHOUT using the persistent cheat feature. Isn't that possible? When the persistent chat option is disabled, it doesn't seem to log any user conversation. It would be a great feature to know how many users do actually use the AI Chatbot. :)
