To make this plugin work, first, you’ll need to install the plugin. The easiest method is to take the .zip file you’ve downloaded and upload it via Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin in the WordPress Dashboard. Once the plugin is installed, be sure to Activate it.

Now that you’ve installed and activated the plugin, you’ll see a new menu item created inside WordPress called ‘Ultimate News Aggregator’. First thing first, let’s head over to Settings > Ultimate News Aggregator and take a look at what options are available.

Refreshingly, Ultimate News Aggregator has a super-simple settings screen.

Here you can find the steps needed in configuring your plugin even if you have no HTML knowledge at all. You can find options for:

HINT! Don’t forget to click the Save button every time you modified your settings, otherwise the modifications will be lost!

All Sources – here you can add or edit news sources which are available in your news aggregator website

  • Title: Set the title of this news site.
  • RSS Feed URL* (Required): Input the Source RSS Feed URL. If you leave this field blank, you will not be able to publish the news source.
  • Active By Default: If you check this checkbox, the news source will be displayed by default to unregistered users and they will start their default news source list with this source included.
  • Max Number Of News Items To Display: Input the maximum number of news items to display when visitors click on this news source.
  • Article Reader Query Type: Select the query type you want to search for the article full content.
  • Article Reader Query String: Input the search query for full content searching. This can be the ID or class name you want to search, the regex expression you want to apply for or the XPath Expression you want to query for. If you leave this field blank, content will be automatically detected for you.
  • Lazy Loading Images HTML Tag: Input the correct HTML attribute where the image src is found for lazy loaded images that are scraped from the full content. The attribute containing the actual image URL ex: “data-src” or “data-original”
  • News Categories: Set the categories for news sources.

News Source – here you can add your new news sources which can be listed by users on the front end of the news aggregator website

News Categories – here you create or edit categories assigned to news sources

Settings:

  • Web Proxy Address List If you want to use a proxy to crawl webpages, input it’s address here. Required format: IP Address/URL:port. You can input a comma separated list of proxies. If you are using HeadlessBrowserAPI, add ‘disabled’ into this field to disable automatic proxy rotation of the API.
  • Web Proxy Authentication If you want to use a proxy to crawl webpages, and it requires authentification, input it’s authentification details here. Required format: username:password. You can input a comma separated list of users/passwords. If a proxy does not have a user/password, please leave it blank in the list. Example: user1:pass1,user2:pass2,,user4:pass4.
  • Enable Detailed Logging for Rules Do you want to enable detailed logging for rules? Note that this will dramatically increase the size of the log this plugin generates.
  • Caching Time For RSS Items Set the time in seconds for how often would you like to refresh RSS feed items. If you don’t add a value here, the default will be used: 3600
  • Caching Time For News Articles Set the time in seconds for how often would you like to refresh news articles full content. If you don’t add a value here, the default will be used: 3600
  • Force Detection of Feeds at The Links You Specify Click this option if your feeds are failing to create (this option will force the detection of a feed at the link you specify – will disable the built-in feed detection).
  • Do Not Sanitize/Strip HTML Tags Click this option if you want to disable the html sanitization/html tag stripping done by default by SimplePie. Note that SimplePie will strip away iframes from the feed content, so if you wish to display these, check this checkbox.
  • Enable RSS Caching Click this option if your to enable feed caching – cache will be set to – plugin folder/res/cache.
  • Feed Timeout Input a feed reading timout. Default is 10 seconds.
  • Ad Density Set how often would you like to see ads in the news results.
  • Randomize Ad Order Set if you wish to randomize ad order.
  • Ad HTML to Show Before Article Content in Reader Set the Ad HTML code you wish to be displayed before the article content in the article reader section.
  • Ad HTML to Show After Article Content in Reader Set the Ad HTML code you wish to be displayed after the article content in the article reader section.

Ad Manager – These ads will appear between news articles:

  • Ad URL Set the URL of the Ad.
  • Ad Text Input the Ad text.
  • Start Showing Ad At This Date Set the start date when you wish to start showing this ad.
  • End Showing Ad At This Date Set the end date when you wish to start showing this ad.

Logs

  • System Info Some general system information.
  • Backup Current News Sources To File Hit this button and you can backup the current news source settings to file. This is useful if you have many news sources created and want to migrate settings to another server.
  • Load News Sources From File Here you can upload a previously downloaded backup file and restore the news sources from it.
  • Activity Log This is the main log of your plugin. Here will be listed every single instance of the rules you run or are automatically run by schedule jobs (if you enable logging, in the plugin configuration).
